Your data is always encrypted

Ordinary GPS systems - including popular Slovak services such as commander.sk or gpsdozor.sk - do not mention encrypting your data at all. Your location is therefore usually stored on the server in readable form that anyone with access to the database can view. SaveTrack does it fundamentally differently.

Your GPS data is encrypted before it is stored. Location, routes, the trip logbook and the entire history sit on the server exclusively in encrypted, unreadable form. Without the correct key they are just random characters - so your sensitive data is never exposed in raw form.

A dedicated encryption key for every customer

Each customer's data is protected by their own encryption key. Your records are thus cryptographically separated from everyone else's - one key cannot unlock anything other than the data it belongs to.

This separation means your data forms a standalone, locked vault. It is not mixed together in a single readable database along with all the other clients.

In a data breach the attacker gets nothing

Data breaches happen today even to the largest companies. The difference lies in what the attacker gets out of them. If they steal the database of an ordinary GPS system, they immediately have a complete overview of your vehicles' movements.

With us they would get only unreadable ciphertext. The data is protected by authenticated XChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption, which is practically unbreakable without the correct key. And because we keep the encryption keys separately in a dedicated, secured system, the stolen database itself is worthless.

Keys protected separately from the data

The security of encryption stands or falls on protecting the keys. That is why we do not store them together with the data, but in a separate, secured system with strictly controlled access.

The keys are additionally protected by the modern Argon2id function, designed to withstand even targeted attacks. We thus handle the protection of your data at the same level banks use to protect finances.

Why security matters so much with GPS

A vehicle's location is not just a dot on the map. It reveals where you live, where the company's customers are, what your business routes look like and when the premises are empty. In the wrong hands this is highly sensitive information - for competitors, thieves and anyone who might want to track you.

That is why we take the protection of your data extremely seriously. With encryption we also fulfill the GDPR principles on the protection of personal data and give you certainty that data about your vehicles' movements is safe.

FAQ

Questions and answers

What does it mean that GPS data is encrypted?

It means that your location, routes and trip logbook are encrypted before they are stored on the server. In the database they therefore lie only in unreadable form, and without the correct key no one can read anything from them.

What happens to my data in a breach or database attack?

An attacker would get only encrypted data protected by the XChaCha20-Poly1305 cipher. Since the encryption keys are stored separately in a dedicated secured system, the stolen database is worthless without them.

Does every customer have their own key?

Yes. Each customer's data is protected by their own encryption key, so it is cryptographically separated from all other records.

What encryption does SaveTrack use?

We use modern authenticated XChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption for the data and protect the keys with the Argon2id function - the same class of security you find in banking.

Will encryption make the app harder to use?

No. You log in and work as usual - the encryption runs automatically in the background and in everyday use you will not notice it at all.
