A beacon works differently: the driver keeps it on their keys or in their wallet and the GPS unit recognises it over Bluetooth. The trip is assigned automatically, even when several drivers share one vehicle.
The beacon is wireless – nothing is wired, nothing is drilled. The vehicle only needs a GPS unit with Bluetooth — the FMC130 or the OBD FMC003 — and we assign the beacon to the driver in the administration.
The battery lasts years and the case is IP67, so rain or workshop dust is no problem. At 56.6 × 38 × 13 mm and 18 grams it is a key fob in both size and weight.
Once the system knows who drove, you get a logbook split by driver, driving-style scoring per person and order in business and private trips.
At an audit you do not have to fill in names by hand – trips are assigned the moment they happen and cannot be forgotten.
We send the beacon together with the unit or later on. In the app we assign it to a driver and from the next trip the names in the logbook fill themselves in.
If several people are in the vehicle, the unit picks the beacon with the strongest signal – the person behind the wheel.
An iButton has to be tapped on a reader that must be fitted in the vehicle. A beacon only needs to be carried – identification happens by itself and nothing is drilled.
Several years, depending on the broadcast interval. The battery is not replaceable – at the end of its life the beacon is swapped for a new one.
With those that have Bluetooth – the FMC130 and the OBD FMC003. The waterproof car-battery FTC880 has none, so driver identification there is solved differently. We set up the beacon-to-driver assignment for you.
The unit compares signal strength and assigns the trip to the closest beacon. Should a case be unclear, you can always rewrite the driver in the logbook.
